Exploring A Local Mystery or Legend

No matter who you are or where you live, right now you can go out and search for a nearby legend or ghost story, one that you may not even know about. This will be the foundation for this article. To show that there is a local legend or ghost story either in every town or nearby every town.

Rather it is an old abandoned motel from the early 1900s that everybody in town knows is haunted despite not having any evidence to support their claims, or reports and eyewitness accounts of a strange beast-like creature roaming freely in the woods. (of course, going widely undetected) Chances are you have a local legend that you can learn about.

If you are one of the lucky ones and live in or near one of the many infamous haunted towns like ST. Augustine, Florida, or  Salem, Massachusetts then you won't have any problem at all spending the rest of your life seeking out only your local legends and ghost stories, but what if you don't live near a hundred haunted homes? Well, there is a 99% chance you are living near at least three haunted homes or some other location of interest.

There are many “Haunted house locators” online and on phones/tablets, many of the places listed on these sites and apps are well known to be haunted and are usually accessible for visits by the public.

The first thing to do is to find a well-known haunted location, a location with a historical significance, or any other location with a strange or mysterious reputation. Also, it should be no more than 45 miles from where you live. Therefore it will still be considered a local haunt or legend.

Next, Find a friend who may be interested in exploring a local legend or a historical home. This way it will be funnier and safer. After you have a tag-along with you, the two of you can start by conducting as much research on the legend or the ghost stories you are seeking out.

After you think you have conducted a significant amount of research, it's time to set out for your paranormal adventure. You will want to bring a camera able to take both still pictures and videos.

Depending on your local legend or ghost story of choice, there may be guilds or staff members available to talk with at the location. This is especially true if you are visiting a museum or staying the night in an old motel. By engaging in conversation with those who work and sometimes practically live at some of these locations, you can learn a lot more about the stories and folklore that have survived for hundreds of years.

Other than what has been said here, there really isn’t any other way to start seeking out local mysteries or other folk-forms that await not far from home. Remember to always be respectful to any place you visit and obey any posted rules. Many historical homes and buildings are very fragile and can easily be damaged by visitors.
